KLX (Knoxville-Leipzig-Exchange) is a project of cultural exploration and exchange between Knoxville, Tennessee, USA and Leipzig, Germany. KLX is a study that attempts to understand the following:

  1. The life-situation and needs of young adults in Leipzig and Knoxville in the age range of 25-35 years.
  2. Cultural differences between Germans and Americans in the same age group.

For the study, we invite people to a coffee shop and interview them about topics like work, family & relationships, friends, activities, life-questions, future goals, church & spirituality. In order to provide cultural exchange, the conversations are conducted bilingually in German and English.

We will use the results to develop ways for the church to meet people’s needs. Many people in America and Germany feel that the churches are not relevant for their lives, and that they are outdated and not in touch with the people’s needs and questions. Through the results of the study we want to find out how the church can serve people in their needs and life-questions and how the church can develop ways to meet the needs of the community.

The interviews in Leipzig are taken at Café Till, Barfußgässchen 12, 04109 Leipzig, Germany from May 6th – May 10th.

  • May 6th: 3:30pm – 7 pm
  • May 7-10: 5 pm – 9 pm
